BALANCED ESPRESSO WITH A CHOCOLATY FLAVOUR
Kodagu impresses with sweet, chocolaty flavours that remind us of white chocolate and maple syrup and are complemented by subtle spicy notes. The strong roast ensures a good balance, so that the espresso tastes great on its own or with milk.
South Indian Coffee Company
Since the beginning of 2024, we have been supporting six new coffee projects worldwide with the Coffee Circle Foundation. This is also how the partnership with the South Indian Coffee Company (SICC) came about, through which we discovered this great espresso. SICC runs a fifth-generation coffee farm, is active in coffee exports and conducts intensive research into alternative coffee species to Arabica and Robusta, which are coming under increasing pressure due to climate change.
Tips for preparation
Kodagu Espresso is suitable for all espresso preparation methods. We particularly recommend it for the espresso machine, the stovetop pot or the AeroPress. Kodagu is also ideal for those who like stronger coffee from a filter machine or French press.
Medium Roast
We roast the Kodagu fresh every week in our Berlin roastery. Our master roasters take great care to ensure that the sweetness and full flavour of the coffee develop perfectly. The roasting profile is customised for each batch to get the best out of the coffee.
Origin
Kodagu is the name of the region near the Gungegiri farm in Karnataka, India, which is known for its abundant rainfall and the small streams that emerge from the hills. Here, mainly Arabica coffee grows in the natural shade of native trees such as Ficus altissima and Terminalia bellerica, which supports the diversity of wildlife.
The coffee is processed using the ‘honey process’: This involves de-pulping the coffee cherries and placing them with their pulp on raised racks to dry. Microbiological activity creates special flavours, which are intensified by slow drying over 14 days.
